Hi guys,
I've been having a problem with the Sd card of my Victor stream. I downloaded a few bbooks from Bard for leasure reading. I went to put the book into the talking book folder, and it says that I can't put the book on there because the disk is right protected, and to either get a new disk or remove right protection. Then it has a retry and a cancel button. This has never happened before. This might not have anything to do with the problem, but This is a new computer that I put the card into. I wonder if that has anything to do with what's going on. Any other suggestions on how to deal with this are greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Leslie
hi
can help you again :)
you'll need an AD card reader, and this assumes you've not got to many important fiels on there
go to my computer
find your storage card.
press your application key, go down to format
choose to format in fat32, then choose the 'quick format' check box. click start, or ok.
fixed! (hopefully!)
With the teeth of the card facing away from you, on the underside of the card, on the lefthand side, you will find what looks like a groove and there is a tab either at the end towards the teeth or the one towards you. Slide that tab in the opposite direction and it will no longer be write protected. Sort of like the old days of the 3.5-inch floppies.
I can't remember which way the tab goes, but when I helped my daughter with her camera, I just did trial and error. It's 50/50 so you'll get it.
The tab may take some coaxing to move but I doubt it as it probably slid into Write Protected by accident.
Hope this helps,
Leo
That's happened to me several times. What I hate though is the Media Error 3 message you get sometimes. I haven't used my Stream much lately, though that's mainly because I'm having a problem with my SD card reader. It's one of those combination jump drives and card readers and, while it recognizes the jump drive part sometimes it doesn't recognize the SD card part of it. Needless to say that means it's hard to put digital talking books on there. That's pretty much all I'd use it for these days since i discovered the IPod Touch can play Audible books. Well that and if I want to record a podcast.
I'd say make sure and test you can both read and write with it using a card reader in Windows first.
This 'media 3 error' is proprietary, none of us would know does that mean 'Error writing to disk', 'Error in file system', 'corrupted sectors' or what?
I hate it when devices think they want to be cute for the user and so they create totally meaningless, though often fuzzy-sounding, errors, so the users come to us friendly geeks and get little response. Frustrates the wife, daughter an anyone else who doesn't know the differnece between a cluster and a sector.
I'm all for meaningful errors, let's skip the Error 10, Invalid Page Fault, etc., but Geez! In place of something like 'We're sorry?' Ooookay anyone else remember the ubiquitous and meaningless System 11 errors on the Mac in the 90s? Supposed to be visually cute, had a little bomb in the cdenter of the screen, but when people like you wanted to get something done, it meant nothing. No, it meant less than nothing: "Let's pretend we're being informative, but then when the poor user goes to get any form of technical help, the error is completely meaningless and more nebulous than a new-age toadstool-sitter'.
Okay rant over, but seriously ...
Media error three roughly translates to "We are going to make you go crazy. Please reset your victor reader stream now. We're sorry if some settings or recordings are lost, thank you." Anyway, just reset. Even though you hear the power off beep, just keep holding it. Eventually, you can turn it on again. Anyway, I have no idea how, my computer and stream are conspirators! They upgraded my stream to Chinese 3.3 instead of English Spanish hybrid, although I'd much prefer to have a Latin American Spanish voice. Anyway, that's why I use my book sense instead now.
For anybody who cares, there is an index of error numbers and their meanings at the back of the Stream user guide..
As for the protected SD card, I have had an issue with some 2Gb cards where the tab stubbornly slides back into the protected position, so a new card may be in order if this continues to happen to you.
Cheers
lol to post 6, love it. for bryan, what i used to do for my vr stream is to just plug the entire unit into the computer via the usb cord that came with it. hth
Then I hope those are replaceable because I apparently lost mine ages ago. I don't like to do things that way if I can help it though since the transfer takes that much longer. But I suppose I will have to call Humanware and see if those cables aren't replaceable.
Leo.
Was given an iMac a couple of months ago in the hope that I could make it work for it's owner. When you turned it on, the thing just sat there with a smiley face and wouldn't do anything. No message or anything, not even a sad face, it just sat there, smiling at me.
Turns out that this means that the harddrive is failing of all things, but I only found that out from trile and error.
Sorry for the off topic.
TwinkleToes probably thinks if the error is smiling at you, you'll feel much better about it. Fools.
